The Steamboat Springs Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1898 and is part of the City's Department of Public Safety Services. The department has divisions of Administration, Suppression, Public Education and Fire Prevention (Fire Marshall's office).
In 2002 the Steamboat Springs Fire Department became a combination department with full-time paid staff and firefighters/paramedics or EMTs as well as part-time and volunteer firefighters. Structural and wildland fire suppression, emergency medical services, and high and low angle rope rescue services are provided. Public Education events are ongoing throughout the year.
You may also hear the department referred to as Steamboat Fire & Rescue.
