Fire Company Meeting

Source: The Steamboat Pilot
January 19, 1898

At a meeting of the fire company in Cochran & Bomler's office last night it was decided to at once procure two Babcock chemical fire extinguishers. An Assessment was levied on the non-active members to make up the balance necessary. A committee is also visiting the business houses, to induce them to procure hand grenades.

An active list of twenty members has been made out and a committee appointed to revise constitution and bylaws.

Extension ladders, roof ladders and other appliances have been made for the company and are now in convenient localities in either end of town.

The company is very much encouraged with its success.

A fire alarm bell rope has been put outside of the Library Hall building. Any person using it except in case of fire (meetings in the hail, of course, excepted) will be vigorously persecuted by the fire department.
