Fire Restrictions Now In Effect for Routt County and Northwest Colorado (6/28/06)

“Current fire and fuel conditions are about a month ahead of normal,” said Fire Management Officer Cliff Hutton of the Northwest Colorado Fire Management Unit. “Pretty much like everywhere else in the state.”  In anticipation of escalating fire danger, northwest Colorado sheriffs, fire officials and federal land managers have been meeting the past few weeks discussing conditions and exchanging information.  The decision as of the meeting Tuesday, June 27, is to implement fire restrictions in northwest Colorado to avoid human-caused fires.  This will cover all state, federal and county managed lands within Grand, Jackson, Routt, Moffat and Rio Blanco, Larimer, Summit, and Eagle counties.

Fire restrictions are in effect beginning Wednesday, June 28, with the exception of Browns Park Fish and Wildlife Refuge located in Browns Park west of Maybell in Moffat County.   The BPR will impose a fire ban beginning Friday, June 30.
